Most of the decisions on a holiday lighting project are ours to worry about. This one is yours, and it matters more than people expect. The same roofline can look classic, modern, or playful depending on the bulbs.
Warm white
The traditional choice and still the most popular. Warm white reads like candlelight and flatters brick, stone, and cream-colored homes. If you want the house to look elegant from the street and you're not sure, start here.
Cool white
Crisper and brighter, with a blue-white cast. It suits modern architecture, white or gray exteriors, and anyone who wants the display to pop against a dark sky. Pair it with warm white on the landscaping for contrast.
Color
Red and green, red and white, multicolor, or a custom palette. Color is festive and fun, and it photographs beautifully. The trick is restraint: one color on the roofline and another on the trees, rather than everything at once.
Mixing
Some of our favorite displays combine two of the above: warm white on the roof and red on the columns, or cool white on the house and warm white in the trees. When we come out to see the house, we'll suggest a combination that fits it.
